We establish optimal sufficient conditions for blow-up of solutions to partial differential equations of various types, especially those with singular coefficients. The proofs are based on appropriate modifications of the method of nonlinear capacity. Some further applications of this method and related numerical experiments are also mentioned. The results are obtained jointly with Olga Salieva and Andrey Gulin.
