This series of four talks should provide an introduction to primitive ideals in universal enveloping algebras and the relatively new theory of finite W-algebras. I will focus just on the (easy) type A case where there are also some interesting connections to Yangians. My goal is to make the lectures accessible to graduate students who have taken an introductory course in Lie algebras.

- Talk one: The Duflo-Joseph classification of primitive ideals
- Talk two: Finite W-algebras in type A and Yangians
- Talk three: Finite dimensional representations via Whittaker coinvariants
- Talk four: Goldie rank and Moeglin's theorem
