STEMS2016: Putting Statistics into STEM in the Age of Data

STEMS2016: Putting Statistics into STEM in the Age of Data. 2 – 3 June 2016. UTS Sydney.

A two-day meeting will be held on 2 – 3 June, 2016 at UTS, to consider how to transform Statistics Education in Australia, particularly at tertiary level, in response to the large and growing shortfall between the number of Statistics graduates (at all levels – Bachelor, Masters and PHD) and the needs of academe, government, business and industry.

Professor Xiao-Li Meng, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and a distinguished Professor of Statistics at Harvard University will be visiting Australia for the event.

The first day will feature presentations and panellists from the Office of the Chief Scientist, the Office of Prime Minister and Cabinet, ACARA, BOSTES, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia as well as several universities and other institutions. The second day will focus on developing plans to identify and implement ways to greatly enhance students’ educational experience in Statistics, especially for the last two years of school, and at all tertiary levels.

Anyone involved in teaching or research supervision in Statistics is urged to attend at least the first day.

Meeting sponsors include AMSI, ACEPS, the Statistical Society of Australia and the University of Technology Sydney.

Information and registration, including early-bird fee please visit the website.
