Mathematical Biology Discussion Group - Biological Transport Networks

The next meeting of the mathematical biology discussion group will be held at 2pm in
Carslaw 707A this Thursday (the 8th of September).  

This week Tanya Latty and Chris Reid will be talking about many different aspects of
biological transport networks, such as ant-trail networks and the patterns formed by
exploring slime mould.  

One measure of the efficiency of a transport network is its total path length; it is
often of interest to compare the path lengths of real networks with theoretically
optimal paths such as those of minimum spanning trees or Steiner trees.  We’d especially
love to have anyone that has knowledge on implementing practical methods for finding
Steiner trees for graphs comprised of an arbitrary number of vertices to come along to
the meeting.
