    The tree lattice existence theorems

    Friday 20th July, 12-1pm, Carslaw 159.

A tree lattice is a discrete subgroup of finite covolume in the automorphism group of a locally finite tree. In analogy with the existence of lattice subgroups of real and p-adic Lie groups, H. Bass and A. Lubotzky conjectured the existence of tree lattices. We outline a complete proof of the Bass-Lubotzky conjectures and give some applications.
