Some varieties associated to braid group elements

Friday 31st October, 12:05-12:55pm, Carslaw 373.

In the theory of reductive groups one uses varieties associated to Weyl group elements such as Schubert varieties or Deligne-Lusztig varieties. To study their geometry it is useful to define similar varieties associated to elements in the corresponding Artin braid group. We shall see some examples and give an idea of applications in the representation theory of reductive groups over finite fields.
