The homomorphisms between Weyl modules for SL_3

Friday 12th September, 12:05-12:55pm, Carslaw 373.

In this talk I will show how A. G. Cox (City, London) and myself determine all the homomorphisms between Weyl modules for SL_3(k) where k is an algebraically closed field of characteristic at least three. As a corollary of this result we obtain all the homomorphisms between Specht modules for the symmetric group when the partitions have at most three parts and the prime is at least five. We get most of the homomorphisms when the prime is three. We also obtain the result that the Hom spaces are always at most one-dimensional in both cases.
