Generalisations of Khovanov's arc algebra

I will define some generalisations of Khovanov's arc algebra which was introduced originally in a special situation by Khovanov in the course of constructing a categorification of the Jones polynomial. Then I will explain where these algebras appear "in nature" including some of the following as time permits: perverse sheaves on Grassmannians, level two cyclotomic Hecke algebras, the general linear supergroup, the walled Brauer algebra, Deligne's category \(\underline{Rep}(GL_{\delta})\).
