Characterisation of complex manifolds by their automorphism groups.
Friday 5th November, 12-1pm, Carslaw 375.
For an n-dimensional Kobayashi-hyperbolic complex manifold M, the
group of its holomorphic automorphisms is known to be a
finite-dimensional Lie group. Let d(M) denote the dimension of the
group. We completely classify all M for which d(M) is bigger than or
equal to n2+1. Indications are that for smaller values of d(M) an
explicit classification is unlikely to exist.
The work is joint with Steven Krantz (Washington University, St. Louis).
