Prescribed Gauss curvature equation is a type of Monge-Ampère equation, which is elliptic if Gauss curvature is positive. Elliptic Monge-Ampère equations are discussed extensively. Few results are available for Monge-Ampère equations of mixed type. In this talk, we construct smooth solutions if degeneracy occurs in a controlled way.
