Jean Yee Hwa Yang

Lecturer

School of Mathematics and Statistics

I am a Sesqui Lecturer in Bioinformatics in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at University of Sydney.   My research concerns the application of statistics to problems in genomics and molecular genetics.  In particular, my research work has centered on the development of statistical methodology and software for the design and analysis of gene-expression data from microarrays.

I obtained a bachelor’s degree in statistics from the University of Sydney and then spent a year working in the Image Analysis Group in the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CMIS).  After that, I began my doctoral studies in the Department of Statistics at the University of California, Berkeley where I worked under the supervision of Terry Speed on the design and analysis of cDNA microarray experiments.  Previously I was an Assistant Professor in Department of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco and have recently moved back to Sydney and started a lectureship position with University of Sydney.   I continue to have close collaboration with the Center for Bioinformatics & Molecular Biostatistcs (CBMB) and  UCSF NHLBI Shared Microarray Facility.
