Request retrieval of file(s) from backups

Introduction

Use this form to request retrieval from backups of a file or files that have been mistakenly deleted or corrupted.

Backup Policy

The School's three central Alpha servers and all the Alpha workstations are backed up on a cycle of full backups interspersed with a number of incrementals. The period of the full backups and the number of incrementals varies from machine to machine.

Please fill out the form below nominating the machine, pathnames of the file(s) you wish retrieved and also an estimate of the date when the file(s) were last in a stable state. This last piece of information will enable the CSOs to locate the correct backup

Note:
In some cases, your file(s) may not be retrievable. For example, as the backups are generally done in the very early hours of the morning, if you create a file shortly after you arrive at work in the morning and accidentally delete it in the afternoon, it will never have been backed up.
