Title: Engaging with industry: pros and cons
Abstract: Tony obtained his PhD in 1969 from UNSW, and has been a Professor at The University of Melbourne since 1986. His research is in algebraic combinatorics, mathematical physics, aspects of numerical analysis, statistical mechanics and experimental mathematics. He was the foundation Director of AMSI, and since 2003 has been Director of MASCOS, the ARC Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems. He is currently on the ARC College of Experts. He has been awarded the Lyle Medal and Hannan Medal of the Australian Academy of Science, the Bernhard Neumann Award by the Australian Mathematics Trust, and the Szekeres Medal by the Australian Mathematical Society. He is a fellow of the AustMS, the AAS, the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, and the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (USA). He is in the Australian team for the World Triathlon Championships to be held in Budapest in September, 2010.
