Title: Gauge invariants of homology S^3 x S^1s
Speaker: Chris Hays (Michigan State University)
Abstract: 4-manifolds with the homology of S^3 x S^1 show up as the result of many natural constructions. Thus, invariants of these manifolds have applications to other areas of topology. However, the classical gauge-theoretic invariants are not defined for homology S^3 x S^1s. I intend to discuss some of the constructions of these manifolds, and how to construct invariants using monopole Floer homology. Lastly, I hope to discuss applications of this invariant.
