Title: Lie theory and geometry of groupoids

Abstract:The talk will give a general introduction to Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids,
mostly through examples. These objects permeate mathematics and can be naturally found
in a variety of contexts (such as topology, foliations, Poisson geometry, group actions,
in the transition from classical to noncommutative geometries etc). I will emphasize
Lie-theoretic aspects of the theory, illustrating when/how known results for Lie
algebras and Lie groups carry over to the realm of algebroids and groupoids, and comment
on recent results and applications.
