MaPSS: Mathematical Postgraduate Seminar Series: Jack Moon -- Lax pair equations and harmonic maps

Dear All,

We are delighted to present the MaPSS Seminar topic of Monday 9th May; please see the
abstract below.

**From this Semester the Seminar will always run on Monday, at 5:00pm in 535A**

Following the talk, there will be pizza on offer.

Speaker: Jack Moon (Sydney University)

Title: Lax pair equations and harmonic maps

Abstract: Lax pairs are a simple Lie algebra differential and a common object in
integrable systems. We wish to introduce Lax pair equations as a natural way to
construct harmonic maps, and we wish to look at their solutions. Furthermore we’ll look
at methods at constructing additional solutions via a method known as dressing.

Supervisors, please encourage your students to attend.

Thanks,
MaPSS Organizers
