Title: Fusion categories and (2+1)-dimensional topological quantum field theory 

Abstract: In this talk, we are going to explore the relationship between fusion
categories and (2+1)-dimensional topological quantum field theory due to Witten, Kitaev,
Freedman and many others.  Time permitting, I will discuss some ongoing work in
collaboration with the quantum information group at USYD about boundaries between
topological phases of matter in dimension 2.
