                Professor Richard Cowan

Geometric problems concernant the convex hull
of n points chosen at random

               Friday, 24 November, 2.00pm

                      Carslaw 173

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

These problems, which have been researched over a period of about 130 years,
are fundamental to the theory of geometric probability, with classical
contributions from Sylvester, Crofton, Blaschke, Deltheil, Rényi & Sulanke,
Effron
and Miles.

The speaker will present the history of this body of work. He will also
discuss recent progress, including the important work of Buchta and two new
theorems from his own research.
