Title: Markov chain models of complex systems
Abstract: Markov chains provide a useful paradigm for modeling complex systems from various application areas. Rigorous analysis of their evolution can provide insights into the real situations they model. In this lecture, I will describe one Markov chain model from each of the following fields: computer science, statistical mechanics and mathematical biology. In each case, I will give some details of what is known about the model's behavior.

Coffee and tea will be served in the tearoom after the talk.
