    Immanant problems, no solutions imminent.

    Friday 11th September, 12-1pm, Carslaw 273.

One of the most intriguing open problems in matrix theory is the Permanental Dominance Conjecture. This concerns a certain property of Hermitian positive semi-definite matrices A, and it is unresolved even if A is as small as 4-by-4.

We shall discuss this conjecture together with a similar conjecture about totally positive matrices.
