Elliptic equations on wildly oscillating domains

    Wednesday, September 3rd, 2-3pm, Carslaw 173.

We consider elliptic equations with Robin (third) boundary conditions on sequences of domains with very fast oscillating boundary. The aim is to determine the limit problem as the domains approach a smooth domain. It turns out that the boundary conditions of the limit problem are Dirichlet boundary conditions. Using the model of heat conduction it will be shown that such a result is to be expected intuitively. The work presented is joint work with Norm Dancer.
