CalTitle1: Geometry Seminar: Coward -- An Upper Bound on Reidemeister Moves

Auth: zhangou@bari.maths.usyd.edu.au

Speaker: Dr. Alexander Coward (Sydney) Time: Tuesday, July 31, 12(NOON)--1PM Room: Carslaw 707A Lunch: after the talk (at Taste at Sydney Uni, i.e. "Law School Annex Cafe") --------------------------------------------------- Title: An Upper Bound on Reidemeister Moves Abstract: given any two diagrams of the same knot or link, we provide an explicit upper bound on the number of Reidemeister moves required to pass between them in terms of the number of crossings in each diagram. This provides a new and conceptually simple solution to the equivalence problem for knot and links. This is joint work with Marc Lackenby. --------------------------------------------------- Web site for Geometry Seminar is at: http://www.maths.usyd.edu.au/u/SemConf/Geometry/index.html
