A Personal Introduction to Perverse Sheaves
Part 2

In the second half of this introduction, I will talk about applicatons of perverse sheaves to characters of finite reductive groups (Lusztig's theory of character sheaves). In the case of GLn, we will see how to construct simple perverse sheaves whose characteristic functions are precisely the irreducible characters of GLn(Fq). A recurrent theme will be the notions of small and semismall maps.
