On the centre of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of the symmetric group

Dipper and James have conjectured that the centre of the Hecke algebra of type A is the set of symmetric polynomials in the Jucys-Murphy elements. There is a canonical surjective homomorphism from the affine Hecke algebra of type A to this Hecke algebra. When q - 1 is invertible, the conjecture implies that the centre of H is the image of the centre of the affine Hecke algebra. In the talk, I will discuss the proof of the Dipper-James conjecture which Andrew Francis and I have recently submitted for publication.
