Some new point-counting algorithms

Abstract
I will outline a new algorithm for counting points on varieties defined over finite fields. The presentation will be elementary and will not assume any prior experience with the point-counting problem. Details are given in the preprint "Computing zeta functions of arithmetic schemes".
