Mathematics major – applied mathematics

A major in mathematics consists of 24 credit points (four units) of senior mathematics (pure or applied). A double major (48 credit points) is recommended for students interested in postgraduate mathematics.

The following program is highly recommended for those students aiming at a mathematics major focussing on applied mathematics. Optional extra units are available in second and third year, and students interested in mathematics are encouraged to consider taking some of these in addition to the core program.

The arrows in the diagrams below indicate roughly which junior (first year) units are most relevant for the various intermediate (second year) units, and which intermediate units are most relevant for the various senior units.

To progress into senior mathematics students are required to take 12 credit points (two units) of intermediate mathematics, but it is recommended to take more than the minimum.
