Geometric extensions and the six functor formalism

The six functor formalism is a powerful categorical tool for understanding spaces, and is especially suited to understanding singular algebraic varieties. In this talk we'll see how this formal framework can be used to construct invariants of singular algebraic varieties, which generalise objects such as intersection cohomology and parity sheaves.
