Summer Research Scholarships (formerly Vacation Scholarships)

Each year the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Faculty of Science award a small number of summer research scholarships for tenure in the summer vacation (November – February). These scholarships are usually advertised in July / August. Application for these scholarships is intially through the Faculty of Science through their Denison Research Scholarships and Science Research Experience Scholarships

As well as scholarships offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Scince Faculty itself, there are scholarships offered by AMSI (the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute) which are tenable in the School.

Due to Covid 19 this year the scholarships are only available to current domestic and international University of Sydney students and domestic students from other Universities in NSW. The Denison scholarship will run for 4 weeks from middle of January to middle of February 2020. The AMSI scholarship runs for 6 weeks between December 2020 and February 2021. The relocation scholarship is not available this year. Projects in Mathematics will run online via Zoom.

Application for the Denison scholarships will open some time in October.

If you are a student of the University of Sydney and have an HD average in advanced maths/stats units then you can apply for the AMSI VRS. A list of projects can be found at here. Before applying directly to AMSI you need to apply within the University of Sydney:

If you are a University of Sydney student please apply using this online application form USyd students.
If you are not a University of Sydney student please apply using this online application form external students.

The University of Sydney application will close on Sunday 27 September. When then Denison application opens you can apply for that as well.
