Summer Research Scholarships (formerly Vacation Scholarships)

Each year the School of Mathematics and Statistics awards a small number of summer research scholarships for tenure in the summer vacation (November – February). These scholarships are usually advertised in July / August.

As well as scholarships offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics itself, there are scholarships offered by AMSI (the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute) which are tenable in the School.

The Faculty of Science has created the Denison Research Scholarships and Science Research Experience Scholarships which replace the Vacation Scholarships of the School of Mathematics and Statistics.

The program is open to both current domestic and international University of Sydney students as well as domestic students from other Australian Universities and New Zealand. The scholarship value is six weeks of the standard full-time Research Training Program stipend for the year in which the Scholarship offer is made. Students living outside of metropolitan Sydney may be eligible for an additional scholarship to assist with travel and relocation costs.

For information on how to apply visit the Faculty website and find the "apply online for the Summer Research program" link.

If you are a student of the University of Sydney, have an HD average in advanced maths/stats units, and would like to be considered for the AMSI Scholarship as well as for the Denison Scholarship, you will need to apply for the AMSI scholarship first and then tick the appropriate box in the Faculty's application form. Please note that the AMSI scholarships have an earlier closing date than the Denison and Science Research Experience Scholarships. The AMSI scholarship will be topped up to the same level as the Denison Scholarship.
