(Discrete) projective minimal surfaces

Wolfgang Schief (UNSW)

Abstract

The remarkable (transformation) properties of minimal surfaces in projective differential geometry were studied in great detail in the first half of the 20th Century but have been largely forgotten since then. The aim of this talk is to make a case for the relevance of projective minimal surfaces in the 21st Century. This is mainly done in the context of "discrete differential geometry" but the relation to integrable systems theory is also briefly indicated.
